THE GERMAN GRAND PRIX OF 1957

With Juan Manuel Fangio's birthday coming up today on Saturday, it is time to step back in time to witness a legendary moment in motorsport history. Honouring his remarkable victory at the 1957 German Grand Prix at Nürburgring, we present another of our Fine Art Prints – 'The Lap That Made a Legend'. Join us as we celebrate Fangio's awe-inspiring drive and his Maserati 250F's unrivalled performance and immerse yourself in the captivating story of one man's determination to conquer the track.

FANGIO'S 5 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Juan Manuel Fangio, a legendary name in motorsport. Born in 1911, in Argentina, Juan's rise to fame came from humble beginnings. From early local races in Argentina, Fangio's exceptional driving skills quickly propelled him into the international racing scene. Competing in various series, including Formula 1, he achieved historical success, securing a record-breaking five World Championships. Known for his on-track racing prowess as well as for his off-track humility and gentlemanly demeanour, Fangio's character and sportsmanship inspired drivers of future generations to come.

9 RECORDS SET IN 10 LAPS

The incredible story depicted in our Fine Art Print happened in 1957 during the German Grand Prix at Nürburgring. Starting in his Maserati 250F, Fangio opted for softer tires and only half a tank of fuel. Thanks to the reduced weight, Juan had a significant advantage in the corners and quickly took the lead spot. However, during a pitstop that was needed to change the tires and refuel, one of the mechanics dropped and lost a wheel nut. Causing valuable time loss, the incident pushed Fangio back to third place, a staggering 48 seconds behind second Peter Collins.

Over the next 10 awe-inspiring laps, Fangio embarked on a breathtaking comeback, surpassing Collins and setting a lap record-breaking streak of nine laps, seven of which were consecutive. With Collins no longer an obstacle, Fangio set his sights on the race leader, Mike Hawthorn, executing a spectacular overtake with his right tires on the track and his left tires grazing the grass, ultimately winning the Grand Prix.

3D MODEL OF NüRBURGRING

As with all our Fine Art Prints, the artwork is a result of hundreds of painstaking hours to depict every little detail perfectly. Starting with the Maserati 250F model, the car was recreated in 3D in its entirety. From all of the little knicks and crannies on the hood, all the way to the Borrani wire wheels, we have modelled everything in 3D and with the utmost attention to detail.

But that is not all. Since the Nürburgring has significantly evolved in the past 66 years, we had to opt to model the track ourselves as well. Thus, almost everything depicted in the artwork is CGI. Except for the people. Shot using the best camera technology available, the people were styled to fit the era of the race and then captured in perfect detail to be incorporated within the design. The result is almost a real-life depiction of the race that certified Fangio as the legend we know today.

THE LAP THAT MADE A LEGEND

Not only were the spectators stunned by the sheer speed of Fangio in his Maserati 250F, but so was the driver himself. Reflecting on the race, Fangio himself confessed, “I have never driven that quickly before in my life, and I don't think I will ever be able to do it again.” This extraordinary feat solidified Fangio's status as a driver in a league of his own, leaving an indelible mark on the annals of motorsport history. Celebrate Fangio's remarkable triumph with our exclusive Fine Art Print, capturing the essence of his unparalleled performance and unforgettable Nürburgring victory.
