Past Dezeen Awards sustainability winners said that winning gave them more credibility, prompted enquiries and provided new-found motivation.

Kampala-based Localworks, which won sustainable building of the year for its school with organically shaped classrooms, said that winning a Dezeen Award "motivates us to push further".

Indian practice Multitude of Sins, which won sustainable interior of the year in 2022 for its eclectic restaurant made from discarded materials, said that winning is "a reminder that good work can prevail".

Scottish startup Kenoteq, which won sustainable design of the year last year for its brick made from construction waste (above), said that winning has given them "exposure to our target market".

This year's star-studded panel includes architects Sanjay Puri, Farshid Moussavi and Omar Gandhi, interior designers Kelly Behun and Colin King, designers Sabine Marcelis, Erwan Bouroullec and Yves Béhar, and brand directors Piero Lissoni, Patrizia Moroso and Giulio Cappellini.
